BCCO launched the programme in 2023 and SoundCloud joined as a strategic partner for Season 3. The success of previous seasons combined with the addition of SoundCloud as partner is behind the growth in applications.

Improved diversity in applications

As well as 900% increase in total application, the diversity of applications has also improved significantly over Season 3. BCCO asks applicants 4 questions with their application to assess how well the programme is reaching under-represented audiences.

In Season 4, this data was improved:

  • 26% of applicants identified as FLINTA*
  • 31% of applicants identified as LGBTQI
  • 16% of applications identified as BIPOC
  • 7% of applicants stated that they lived with a disability

Glenn Elliott, New Faces Programme Manager for BCCO said :

"We're happy to have seen an increase in the diversity of applications this season. But there is still work to be done, especially in encouraging more applicants from Black artists where we still feel we underrepresent. That will be a focus for us as we moved forward."

From the 945 applications, 30 will be chosen by the judges to be featured in a 15 week season playing out on BCCO's SoundCloud channel from Saturday 5th April to Sunday 13th July. Two mixes are released each week - one on Saturday and one on Sunday.
